Spinal Manipulation

Manipulation is a high velocity/low amplitude thrust into a specific joint segment of the spine in a particular line of drive to reduce pain. This is a therapeutic intervention that provides pain reduction through restoring normal range of motion at the particular joint segment. Manipulation also allows endorphins to release in the body, which in turn presents a sense of immediate relief.

IMG_7430Flexion Distraction Table

Flexion-Distraction is a specialized table assisted, hands-on opening of the disc space and facet joint. As the table flexes, the practitioner increases the range of motion at a specific area of the spine. This results in increased blood flow, increased mobility, decreased tension, and usually gives relief from pain. Flexion-Distraction is utilized for many conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, disc herniations, ruptured discs, bulging discs, stenosis, whiplash injuries, back spasms, and extremely acute cases.

Gua Sha/”Muscle Scraping”

Gua Sha translates from Chinese exactly as “to scrape away fever.” It is a traditional form of Chinese medicine. It involves rubbing or scraping the injured area repetitively in a specific pattern with a blunt instrument to effectively reduce pain, increase range of motion, enhance blood circulation and eliminate muscle tension. It is most commonly used as a form of soft tissue mobilization to treat pain but can also be used to treat numerous conditions such as sprains, strains, muscle spasms, fibromyalgia, colds, flu and fever.

 The Mulligan Concept

Mulligan treatments or “mobilization with movement” came from New Zealand in the 1950’s and has proven in hundreds of studies to be an effective way to restore normal joint range of motion and reduce pain. It involves the therapist repositioning the joint into it’s correct of pain free ROM while the patient is moving the impaired area.

Kinesio Taping/Positional Fault Taping

Taping can be used for muscle inhibition and muscle facilitation. Providing support for specific muscles or joint with activity can be very beneficial in improving performance and reducing pain. Laser Therapy

For the last sixty years, laser therapy has been used for pain management around the world to treat a variety of conditions. When paired with physical therapy and other treatments, laser therapy speeds up the healing process. It works by absorbing photons emitted by the laser, and then transforming them into usable energy. The extra energy provided from this process helps in pain relief and a healing rate that other stand-alone treatments can’t provide. Laser therapy is a painless treatment that takes 5-10 minutes and provides great relief, especially in conjunction with our other treatments.

Mckenzie Spine Protocol

A noninvasive standardized approach that prescribes a series of individualized exercises. The goal of the McKenzie Spine Protocol is to centralize pain and move it from the leg to the low back. It is typically used to diagnose and treat patients with low back pain and neck pain.

Electrical Stimulation is used to reduce pain, inflammation and swelling around the joint. It is usually coupled with ice or heat. Electrodes are pads that are attached to the skin and transmit mild electrical currents to your skin from the machine. Electrical stimulation is beneficial to anybody experiencing musculoskeletal pain.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound helps with the overall blood flow to the area of pain. It helps to loosen up tissue before stretching or physical activity. Ultrasound is ideally used to treat musculoskeletal injuries such as tendonitis, sprains or strains.

Hot and Cold Modalities

Moist heating pads are applied directly to the area of pain. The moist heat generated from these pads are used to relax tight muscles and increase blood flow to the area. It is ideal for patients with muscle strains, spasms or arthritis. Cold packs are used to reduce pain and control swelling in the area of injury. Cold packs are ideal are patients with pain from an acute injury.

We offer many other specialized treatment approaches from around the world you will learn about as a patient. We are in constant pursuit of progressing our skills to offer this area an exceptional level of care and successful patient outcomes.
